While on the north shore of Kauai, we visited Limahuli, a lush tropical valley filled with plant life, taro, trees and lava rock. Much of what is there is indigenous to Hawaii, but there is also a great deal of other plant life that we associate with Hawaii, but in fact was introduced in the years following the original settlement of the islands by Polynesians. The deep verdant hillside was accentuated by the dark black lava rock and streams of crystal clear springwater, and I knew I had to capture the beautiful scene.
