Vail is one of my top two or three favorite mountain towns in Colorado. Although a bit on the expensive side (some would say snooty), I like the natural beauty of the surroundings and the architecture of Vail Village. One of its better known features is Vail's covered bridge. It's quaint and a perfect feature for the village whose architecture is reminiscent of Europe or in some ways an old New England town. One autumn day, I went on a swing through some of the mountains in Colorado with my nephew. Justin, a budding photographer from Michigan, was visiting us and we wanted to go on a shoot together. We stopped at several places that weekend and Vail was one of them. To get this shot, I was perched on some rocks under a small tree so I could include its amber leaves in the top right part of the frame. I had my back to a rock wall so I could include the foliage to the left. My nephew was located a few feet to my right. I normally like to use a long exposure to smooth out the water in shots like this one, but it was too awkward to set up my tripod. But that's OK. I think it was fine the way it turned out. Today, Justin is doing really well at wildlife photography, and sometimes posts his images on Facebook. I hope I played a small part in piquing his interest.
